The premises and conceptual frameworks that served as a basis for this art installation were: remembering as a reconstructive function of memory, subconscious mind seen as a laboratory where profound mental transformation happens and, lastly, perceiving softness and vulnerability as a proof of aliveness and humanity and our human capacity of constantly being influenced by the passing of time.
Rice paper was chosen for its fragility, transparency, lightness and organic textures, becoming a soft, tactile medium through which the the metaphor of memory was expressed, as a layered vulnerable organism. Ink (diluted or concentrated) acted almost as a bodily fluid passing through each of the layers and influencing them in seemingly unexpected ways. Water flooding or penetrating the materials was a metaphor for forgetfulness, that slowly distorts and dissolves memories. Light and space were chosen for their imateriality as a way of dealing with the idea of forgetfulness, and the way it transforms the presence into absence, by slowly fading away.
